Our Leeds branch was built in the early 1900’s so that it could be used as a maternity hospital. The large building was perfect to keep separate patients in different rooms, and the Matron lived next door in the adjoining house. Jeremy Paxman was amongst the last babies to be born there.

In 1958 the hospital was turned into a dentistry practice for a short time, until a vet named John Saxton bought the premises in 1970. John developed the building into an appropriate environment suitable for animal treatment. In 1996 he purchased the building next door and began the extension of his practice.

Around 1997 John employed a young veterinary surgeon named Brendan Clarke. Brendan was enthusiastic, open minded and most importantly, dedicated to animal care. He became a partner shortly after joining the practice, and the sole owner in 2003 when John retired.

Before coming to Towerwood Vets Brendan describes himself as being sceptical about holistic medicine. However, since being shown the wonders complementary medicine can offer its patients, Brendan has a completely new attitude today.

“After observing the pain relief and ease of mind that holistic medicine can offer, I was intrigued. I joined a HPTG course in 1998 and became qualified to offer homeopathy in 2004.

“Since qualifying I have been delighted to be able to offer a number of patient’s complete cures to conditions. The main focus of homeopathy is to get to the root of a problem instead of just treating the symptoms it poses.”

After becoming the owner of Towerwood Vets Brendan redeveloped the entire practice so that theatre suites could be created. The building has since seen a number of refits and refurbishments until it was finally completed in 2007.

Brendan says “The practice is spacious, modern and offers the most up to date conventional, as well as complementary treatments. We’ve been trusted by the residents of Leeds for the past 40 years and look forward to continuing our long standing top class reputation.”

Our promise to you!

If a pet in need is admitted to our clinic at Cookridge, or admitted and transported over from our Greengates branch, then your pet will be looked after by our own team. We will NEVER transport any patient admitted and treated by us to our emergency provider. Our team will look after your pet on the premises, checking or even staying with your pet overnight whilst they have treatment.

If your pet is seen by our emergency provider, and is admitted overnight, and you would like our team to continue your pets care the following day, then providing your pet can travel we will organise for your pet to transfer to our Cookridge clinic the following day.
